Making the Holidays Happen!

You can say Merry Christmas to Mike Payne! Mike Payne, the husband to the amazing Kate Coe who owns spruce things up, took on a major laser project for one of the hardest workers on Christmas Eve— Santa! Santa was visiting Biltmore Estates and needed a divider so that he could meet all the boys and girls! Mike was up to the task and took his time on creating an awesome ornament-shaped divider. He is certainly on Santa’s Nice List!

We love to see our makers making the season bright with their skills. Elena Wong, a textile artist, was introduced to the German tradition of the advent calendar made up of pouches that count down the December days until Christmas by her sister-in-law. Elena’s love of integrating cultures and traditions inspired her to create this version of the German Advent Calendar as a gift for her brother and sister-in-law. The pouches are decorated with Mola patches made by the Kuna people in Panamá. Molas are traditionally part of the Kuna’s clothing and are all hand-sewn pieces that can be incorporated into different forms including clothing, purses, and pillows. You can check out more of Elena’s work here!
